The First Baptist Church of Arlington will be hosting a free concert featuring the Gordon College choir on Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7:30 in the evening. The church is located at 819 Massachusetts Avenue.

The Gordon College Choir is one of the premier choral groups on the East Coast. The 50-voice choir regularly tours New England and the eastern United States preforming a variety of numbers from the choral orchestral literature. Members of the Gordon choir are known for their strong harmonies and powerful, emotive interpretations of pieces.

The choir was featured in the Public Broadcasting System television special Jews and Christians: A Journey of Faith that has aired in the United States since 2001. Besides its busy domestic touring schedule, the choir routinely travels internationally. It has presented concerts in Central Europe, including performances in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, budapest, and central Italy.

Past performance venues have included the National Cathedral, the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel, the Beethoven Haus in Bonn, Germany, the Salzburg Dom in Austria, Il Duomo in Florence, Italy, and the Lady Chapel of the Black Madonna in Einsiedeln, Switzerland.

First Baptist’s new music director and organist, Greg Lowther, was formerly student director of the group.

This concert has been planned as a community event. Everyone is invited to attend free of charge and enjoy the music.
